COVID-19 Updates

April 27, 2020

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Greensburg Community Schools is closed the remainder of the 19-20 school year.  As of right now, buildings are closed to the public and staff.  As more information on mandatory business closings is known Greensburg Schools will communicate this information to our public.

The IDOE has given us two options for finishing out the 19-20 school year.  We can either attend 160 school days or provide students with 20 eLearning days after April 2. Greensburg Schools will be providing 21 eLearning days up to May 21, 2020.  Building Principals have in place eLearning plans that began on April 6.  Guidelines for eLearning expectations have been provided to each individual building by the building principal.  Teachers are expected to be available from 8-12 and 1-3 for office hours. Students and parents that are concerned with home connectivity for eLearning need to contact their school principal. Students should monitor emails daily for any instructions from their teacher or the principal. These are some of the basics of the plans:

  1. eLearning will occur on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week.
  2. Teachers will be available to answer student questions during office hours.
  3. Modifications to instruction have been made when students don’t have connectivity.
  4. Your building Integrationists and Tammy Williams will be available to help with instructional or curricular questions you may have and provide you with additional resources.
  5. Communication is being done electronically through email and social media.
  6. Google Classroom, Prism and ItsLearning are the apps being used to instruct online.

Future information will be provided by the Superintendent when updates are available. Parents and students need to refer to the school corporation website and/or school corporation Facebook or Twitter pages for factual information. If you have any questions, you can email or call your building principal. All of the buildings may be doing things slightly different but providing for quality learning experiences is still our top priority.  We hope to have some concrete decisions on Prom, Honor Day, and Graduation by Monday, May 11, 2020.  This situation continues to be very fluid and is always subject to regulations coming from the IDOE, Indiana Governor, or the Federal level that takes decision making out of our local control.  As always, our top priority will be student safety.

Tom Hunter, Superintendent
