G.= E.S. Title I Parent Involvement Policy

Greensburg Elementa= ry School Title I Parent Involvement Policy has been jointly developed and agreed upon by Greensbu= rg Elementary School= and a committee representing parents of Title I students served in the school. = The policy was developed to encourage parent participation in school programs= and parent partnerships in building effective and supportive learning environments for students. Implementation of this policy is an essential = requirement in the quest to enable Title I students to meet the high academic standar= ds for Indiana.

Greensburg Elementary School Title I Parent Committe= e, consisting of parents of Title I students, general education teachers, Ti= tle I teachers, P.T.O. representative and the school’s assistant princi= pal, updates the Parent Involvement Policy at least annually, taking into consideration information and comments solicited from all Title I parents. This policy is on file at the district and school offices and can be revi= ewed by community members through the district web site at www.greensburg.k12.in.us. G= o to Greensburg Elementary School’s web pa= ge for the Title I Parent Policy.

The following Parent Involvement Policy is in compli= ance with Title I legal requirements under section 1118 of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001.

1) A Title I Parent Committee will be established to review Title I programs a= nd policies two times each school year. The Committee will include parents of Title I students, Title I staff, general education teachers, A representa= tive from the P.T.O. and the school assistant principal. Comments and suggesti= ons for improving the Title I program will be gathered and discussed.

2) An annual meeting will be convened in the fall by September 15^th = and again in the spring by May 1^st to inform and explain the requirements to parents of their school’s participation under the T= itle I, Part A and the parents’ rights to be involved. A minimum of four meetings will be scheduled on two different days to accommodate parents’ schedules. Recommended meeting schedule will be a Tuesday = with meeting times at 8:30 am and 12:00 noon and on Thursday with meeting time= s at 8:30 am and 6:00 pm.

3) A letter will be sent to all parents of children selected for participation= in the Title I program. This will inform parents of the selection process and whether their child is participating in Reading Recovery or Literacy Grou= ps. Parents will be invited to participate in a parent conference or phone conference about the child’s program and will be encouraged to obse= rve a Reading Recovery or Literacy lesson during the first nine weeks of the school year.

4) Title I teachers will participate in the fall and spring parent/teacher confere= nces. Parents with students participating in Reading Recovery will receive a progress report at the end of the ten weeks. At the end of the program, a final report will be sent home. Parents with students participating in Literacy groups will receive a report at the end of each nine weeks. Pare= nts will have the option to have a parent conference on their child’s progress. Title staff will report progress and work with the regular education teacher in interpreting and explaining district and program ass= essments.

5) Greensburg Elementary School staff will pro= vide parent workshops and family literacy events throughout the school year. Flexible meeting times will be offered to accommodate differing schedules. Refreshments will be provided.

6) To accommodate parents whose native language is not English, parents will be invited to bring a translator to workshops, conferences, and other school events. When available, a translator can also be arranged through the sch= ool office. Additionally, the computer can be used as a tool which translates text from English to Spanish when communication from the school needs to = be sent home to a parent.

7) Communication with parents is provided through school and Title I newsletters, weekly parent packets, student agendas, telephone contacts, home visits, parent conferences, and school gatherings. Family Fun Nights will be held in the early fall and spring. The focus will be on literacy education. Activities will be designed to involve the entire family in a literacy activity. Sup= per will be provided as well to all who attend.

8) Title I staff will make resources available to parents to use at home. These wi= ll include resources for reading skills, such as books, videos, and any additional information available to support the learning process. Parents will also receive two monthly publications. Home & School Connection, which gives parents lots of ide= as for helping their child at home and R= eading Connection which provides parents with tips and ideas for helping the= ir child at home with reading.

9) Title I staff will communicate with the local Head Start program, extending invitations for parent training and workshops when appropriate, and assis= ting with student transitions.

10) Inf= ormation will be made available to all parents and patrons defining the Title I program and its role in the broader context of the school’s team ef= fort to meet national, state and local academic standards.
