6th Grade Visual Arts Class Mrs. Margaret Parker
This is a daily 9 week studio/lab class and we do most of our work during class. There is very little need for homework unless a student is absent. Any extra drawing that a student does outside of class is wonderful. The more practice, the better the work.
Class projects and activities are developed around the eight Indiana Visual Arts Standards themes and from the Discipline Based Art Education components of art history, studio work, aesthetics (thinking about what art is), and criticism (assessment).
Projects include work in 2 dimensions and 3 dimensions. These can include drawing, painting, printing, ceramics, sculpture, weaving, bookmaking, writing, and research.
Each student is expected to
Grading is done individually by me. Students are not compared to each other but there are requirements for each project or activity. I’m assuming that every student will get an “A”. If the work is not completed satisfactorily or not turned in, the points will be lower. Most major projects are worth 25 points. A daily point is given for satisfactory participation. Behavior will affect the mid-term and final grade.
Supplies are a sharpened pencil every day. It can be left in the student folder for the 9 weeks. All other supplies are furnished.
April 17 , 2012 We have started the following assignments in approximately this order: 1. Folder making - finished 2. Aliens worksheet - careful looking exercise 3. Begun our 7 duplication exercises 4. Coil pottery container 5. Art Elements video
Student grades are available on line and show the graded projects. Any zero's are projects that have not be turned in for a grade yet.
