Girls 8th grade volleyball players traveled to South Decatur and were able to come home with a win 25-13 25-10. We did a lot of things very well and were in complete control. Serving well for the Pirates was Logan Hamer, Lily Grimes, and Davilyn Wesseler and playing aggressive at the net was Simone O'Mara, Mary West, and Anika Scripture. We are now 6-5 and will travel to North Decatur on Thursday.

The 7th grade GJHS volleyball team travelled to South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School last evening and won in three games with scores 23-25 (GJHS), 22-25 (SD) and 15-11 (GJHS).   Ragean Rigney led the team in serves and Claire Horan helped out defensively with returns and digs.  Both Grace Crist and Micha Morrison did well with setting the ball.  Bailey Springmeyer contributed at the net. The team plays at North Decatur tomorrow at 5:30.  Our record is now 8-3. Great job, ladies!

FALL SPORTS PICTURES WILL BE SEPTEMBER 17, Wednesday. That would be for Cross Country, Football, and Volleyball.  Order forms were passed out by the coaches. Extra forms are available in the black tower by the office.

Anyone interested in joining the archery program should return their member information forms to Ms. Kovacich no later than Wednesday, September 24th. There will be an informational meeting at the high school in the cafeteria on Wednesday, October 1, at 5:30 p.m.

Mrs. Durbin from the Public Library comes to GJHS once a month for “Books and Bites.”  During this time, interested students bring their lunch to the library and eat while discussing books.  The first Books and Bites of 2014-15 will be held Thursday, September 18th, and we will discuss our favorite books, authors, and series.  All students are welcomed to attend.  Just see Mrs. Kramer or Mrs. Knight by 3:15  Wednesday to get a pass.  Passes must be issued in advance because students will miss Homeroom.

Students who have taken part in volunteer service activities over the past year should apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.  Students can apply online at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit.  Applications are due by Nov. 4th.
