Attendance
Make school a priority. If possible, please do not schedule appointments and vacations during school time. Actions speak louder than words.
Homework
Ask to see your child's homework. We grade each assignment and I expect your child to correct each problem missed. Ask him/her to explain why each problem was incorrect the first time and how to do the problem correctly. All assignments should be written in their agendas and at the top of the homework paper. All math papers should be kept in a folder that is dedicated only to math. Provide them with a quiet time and place to do their homework. Don't be too quick to offer help. Spending a little time trying to figure out how to solve a problem is actually a good thing. I'll answer all their questions the next day before we grade the assignment. If you notice a low mid-term grade or a low grade on their report card, be more vigilant in checking their agenda and making sure they are completing and correcting their homework.
Ask for Help
I am always willing to give your child extra help. I can come to school early in the morning or stay after school in the afternoons. If other commitments make this impossible, please know that I am willing to meet them after the sports practice, in the evening, or on the weekend. All you or they have to do is ask.
Attitude
If you tell your child that education is important, and if you organize your lives around school to show your child that education is important, your child will be successful and my job will be much easier.
Thank you for your help and interest.
