Course Description

The seventh grade curriculum in Language Arts will emphasize student competence and confidence in exploring an interrelated web of reading, vocabulary, writing, structural grammar, usage, and spelling skills. Students will write about what they read and use their cumulative knowledge of literary form, grammar usage, vocabulary, and spelling in the Writing Process format. Students will keep a Writer’s Notebook that will remain in the classroom. Students will also select a variety of writing samples to be added to a year long writing portfolio.

Grading and Homework

Grades will be based on the total points possible in each 9 weeks grading period.  Grades will include: bell work activities, grammar workbook pages/worksheets, writer’s notebook, essays, quizzes/tests, etc. Students are expected to complete and turn in any and all homework assignments.

Attendance and Homework

All assignments must be turned in on time to receive full credit. Students will be provided with ample classroom time to work on assignments; however, if they fail to complete the assigned task it is their responsibility to have it completed when they return to class the next day. If a student fails to have an assignment completed, then a closed lunch will be assigned. It is the responsibility of the student to find out what was done in class while he or she was absent. Being absent does not excuse a student from the work. A weekly homework chart, along with any worksheets missed will be kept in the room for students to get when they return. I will also keep a weekly chart posted on my school website.  

Classroom Rules

Students are expected to:

• Come to class prepared each and every day. This means having all classroom materials, as well as any assignment that may be due.
• Respect others. This means being respectful to the teacher, other classmates, or any school personnel.
• Be responsible for completing and turning in all assignments, and getting absent work when gone.
• Follow all school rules, as well as classroom rules. The demerit system will be used.
• Come into class and begin the daily bell work.
• Remain in their seats until dismissed by the teacher.
• Maintain a positive attitude, put forth effort, and try their best.
