Hello,
Welcome to my home page. I am glad you surfed to this site to see what 6th grade science is all about.
I have taught here in Greensburg for 36 years! I have enjoyed working with students in grades 4 through 8. Most of my time here has been spent teaching in the elementary schools (Jerman and Washington). Since those schools were closed, I have been at the Junior High School which I found to be an exciting place to learn.
My main teaching assignment is sixth grade science. I hope to make it a class where everyone understands that science is not just something you study in a classroom. In 6th grade science we participate in a science fair, complete projects, conduct experiments, dissect worms and frogs, and build a strong base of knowledge. With the building renovation last year, we have newly built and equipped science labs that will allow us to explore scientific knowledge in many ways. Science reaches out to all of us in our everyday lives. Science is happening around us at all times. I want my students to appreciate how science affects their lives.
I have one class of sixth grade math. Junior High math is taught a little differently than in elementary. Usually we learn a new skill each day to practice. In my math class, students learn to take notes to which they can refer if they need to know how to do a problem. We also use computers and technology as well as do several projects. Math is like science in that we use math all the time. So, of course, math is an important subject to me.
Hmm. Now that I think of it, all of the subjects-language, literature, social studies, art, music, physical education, keyboarding, industrial technology, faminly and consumer science-are important to all of us. That's why we're going to school! Let's work together to make learning an ongoing part of our lives. We never stop learning!
