Vocal Music Grading Policy

Vocal music students have many goals when it comes to assessment.  These goals include teamwork, responsibility, healthy singing, music reading, creativity, and interpretation.

Participation in Class (40%)

Students are required to come to class prepared and ready to work.  Each day, points will be given for daily participation in class accounting for 40% of the student’s overall grade.  Any infraction of Classroom Rules, Guidelines, and Procedures may result in a deduction from the daily participation grade.  Behavior is the student’s choice.

Performances(35%)

Students are required to attend all scheduled performances throughout the year.  Exceptions will be made for certain school activities or family emergencies with prior approval of the director.

Work or not having a ride is NOT an excused absence.

Tests (25%)

Students will be assessed throughout the school year in various ways including sight-singing tests, part-singing tests, or written exams.  Tests can be made-up with an excused absence from school and must be arranged by the director.

Grading Scale

Grades will follow the set grading scale in the school handbook.
