Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a program where your child reads books independently and takes tests over the content of the books on the computer. This is a required part of our reading program. Our school library and the public library have AR books specially marked. Students may take tests at various times during the school day. If the book is one read at home, you may send the book in to school or just write the title down in the agenda and your student will be able to use it to pull up the correct test for that book. They can not take tests from home.
Each child is given a test at the beginning of the year which determines their ZPD which is a leveled range of books that they should be successful with. The greatest growth in reading takes place when the child achieves an average of 85% or better comprehension on the books read. The child will be tested again at various times during the year and the new ZPD should show growth.
Raz Kids
Raz Kids is a program where your child can read books on the computer and take tests. It can be used at school and at home with the password that is unique to your child. The information to log in and password will be sent home with your child. Please keep it for future reference. It is a fun program where your child can track their reading and earn things for their rocket ship. A level of books will be set for the student based on reading tests given here at school. Your child can advance through the various levels, and I can track their progress.
