Opportunities for All
At Greensburg Community Schools, we believe in a comprehensive, dynamic curriculum that extends beyond traditional subjects to enrich students in a variety of ways. We deliberately include a robust Fine Arts curriculum, including band, music, and art to foster a culture of creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. We are proud to offer a number of unique STEM opportunities, including welding, nursing, agriculture, engineering, and technology classes. We are proud to be deemed a Distinguished Corporation by Project Lead the Way, an award recognizing corporations for their commitment to providing enriching STEM-related curriculum to students.
Career exploration is a pillar of the curriculum at GCS. These programs are designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, while also preparing students for future academic and career success. Students at Greensburg Community High School may choose from one of 17 unique career pathways, which enable them to pursue their future career interests while still in school. Each student should graduate from Greensburg prepared for multiple opportunities and ready to meet any challenge they may face should they choose to continue their education, enlist in the military, or head directly into the workforce.
Students have the opportunity to participate in our Work-Based Learning program, which exposes them to potential careers in their field of interest while receiving credit for work. We believe providing unique, enriching opportunities for all students regardless of their path is critical for student success. Students can also earn a number of certifications prior to graduation, helping them to be employable immediately after they graduate. The GCHS JAG (Jobs After Graduation) program helps students learn employability skills and provides a needed bridge to post-graduation life, including additional educational opportunities or a direct line to employment.
As a 1-to-1 technology school, every student is provided with a personal laptop computer, ensuring equitable access to the tools necessary for developing essential 21st-century skills. Our curriculum is enhanced through the use of these devices, helping students to seamlessly integrate technology into their learning experience.
Pirates Are Primed
We believe every Greensburg graduate should be primed to emerge from high school as multifaceted individuals who embody resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Throughout their careers in our schools, students have navigated a diverse array of academic and extracurricular challenges, developing critical thinking skills and the ability to collaborate with peers from varied backgrounds.
All students should leave Greensburg Schools with six key characteristics, making sure all Pirates are PRIMED for success after graduation:
- Persistent: Students can identify challenges and adjust to overcome them, persevere through difficult tasks, create and apply ideas and information, and identify the root cause of a problem while crafting potential solutions.
- Respectful: Students can make others feel good about themselves, listen with thoughtfulness and care to understand others’ perspectives, respectfully articulate their thoughts, participate in activities that benefit their community, and demonstrate empathetic and caring behaviors.
- Inquisitive: Students can use reading and research skills to understand and evaluate complex concepts; listen, inquire, and make connections; plan, organize, and revise their writing for its intended purpose, and apply skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world solutions and problems.
- Motivated: Students can actively advocate for themselves, act with integrity in actions and words, successfully complete tasks without prompting, and embrace risk and failure as opportunities to learn and grow.
- Employable: Students can communicate digitally to exchange ideas, listen to and acknowledge multiple ways or reasons when participating in conversations, and collaborate with team members by making meaningful contributions while staying focused on goals.
- Dependable: Students can make healthy choices, monitor their own learning, utilize resources and tools to help manage assigned tasks, and give, receive, and act upon constructive feedback from adults or peers.
